We left for my parents’ house in KY on July 2. We got up very early and headed out, planning to either arrive early, or to take a few breaks along the way. We drove by the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway as always, and then decided this was the day to drive a little of it. So we turned around and went back. It turned out to be one of the best parts of our trip. Isn’t that the way it usually goes… those unplanned things turn out to be so much fun because you have no prior expectations!
We stopped at the visitor’s center at Waterrock Knob, visited with the ranger there, and decided to take the 0.6 mile hike up to Waterrock Knob. WOW… what a hike. Short but VERY steep… we ended up eating lunch when we got back down to the parking area and then continued on.
